Up to twenty-five Ministers responsible for industry in 37 EU and Mediterranean countries will meet in Rhodes, Greece, on 21-22 September 2006. Representatives of industrial organisations and various research institutes will also be present. The challenges of globalisation faced by companies in the EU and the Mediterranean countries will be the umbrella theme for the sixth Euromed Conference of Ministers responsible for Industry.The purpose of the Conference is to exchange opinions on the new European neighbourhood policy and its opportunities for Euro-Mediterranean co-operation, to discuss ways of increasing investment in the Mediterranean region and to decide on new initiatives aimed at enhancing co-operation between the EU and its Mediterranean Partners. The morning session on 22 September will be about globalisation and the textile industry and will be chaired by Mr Mauri Pekkarinen, Minister of Trade and Industry of Finland, the country currently holding the EU Presidency. The afternoon session, chaired by Dimitris Sioufas, Minister of Development of Greece, will focus on innovations and investments. The Conference of Ministers responsible for Industry is held every two years, on the present occasion in co-operation with Greece and during Finland’s EU Presidency. It is expected to be attended by around 200 guests.The Euro-Mediterranean Conference of Ministers of Foreign Affairs, held in Barcelona in 1995, marked the starting point of the Euro-Mediterranean Partnership, i.e. the so-called Barcelona Process, comprising the current 25 EU countries, nine Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Jordan, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey) and the Palestinian Authority. Cette sixième conférence des ministres responsables de l’Industrie sera centrée sur les défis de la mondialisation pour les entreprises européennes et méditerranéennes. La conférence a pour objectif de permettre un échange de vues sur la nouvelle politique de voisinage de l’Union européenne et sur les perspectives qu’elle ouvre pour la coopération euro-méditerranéenne. Il est également prévu de discuter des possibilités d’augmenter les investissements dans la région méditerranéenne et de décider de nouvelles initiatives en vue de l’intensification de la coopération entre l’UE et la région méditerranéenne. Le 22 septembre, la séance du matin sera consacrée à la mondialisation et à l’industrie textile sous la direction de M. Mauri Pekkarinen, ministre finlandais du Commerce et de l’Industrie, représentant la Présidence de l’UE. La séance de l’après-midi portera sur l’innovation et l’investissement et sera dirigée par M. Dimitris Sioufas, ministre grec du Développement.La conférence des ministres responsables de l’Industrie se tient tous les deux ans; cette fois-ci, elle est organisée sous la Présidence finlandaise, en coopération avec la Grèce. Les participants devraient être au nombre de 200.Le partenariat euro-méditerranéen, appelé le processus de Barcelone et comprenant les 25 États membres actuels, la Bulgarie et la Roumanie, neuf pays méditerranéens (l’Algérie, l’Égypte, Israël, la Jordanie, le Liban, le Maroc, la Syrie, la Tunisie, la Turquie) et l’Autorité palestinienne, a été lancé lors de la réunion des ministres des Affaires étrangères à Barcelone en 1995. Kuudennen Euromed -teollisuusministerikokouksen kattoteema on globalisaation haasteet EU-maiden ja Välimeren maiden yrityksille. Kokouksen tarkoituksena on mielipiteiden vaihtaminen uudesta Euroopan naapuruuspolitiikasta ja sen tarjoamista mahdollisuuksista Euro-Välimeri -yhteistyölle. Tavoitteena on lisäksi keskustella tavoista lisätä investointeja Välimeren alueelle sekä päättää uusista aloitteista, joilla lisätään EU:n ja Välimeren alueen yhteistyötä.Kokouksessa keskustellaan aamupäivällä 22.9. globalisaatiosta ja tekstiiliteollisuudesta EU-puheenjohtajamaan kauppa- ja teollisuusministeri Mauri Pekkarisen johdolla. Iltapäivällä taas keskitytään innovaatioihin ja investointeihin Kreikan kehitysministeri Dimitris Sioufaksen johdolla. Teollisuusministerikokous järjestetään kahden vuoden välein, tällä kertaa Suomen EU-puheenjohtajakaudella ja yhdessä Kreikan kanssa. Kokousvieraita odotetaan saapuvan n. 200.Nykyisten 25 EU-maan, Bulgarian ja Romanian, yhdeksän Välimeren maan (Algeria, Egypti, Israel, Jordania, Libanon, Marokko, Syyria, Tunisia, Turkki) sekä Palestiinalaishallinnon muodostama Euro-Välimeri -kumppanuus, ns.
